Was out for the first ride yesterday. Didn't baby it, but knocked about the forest and waded through a swampy river. What an amazing machine. Put about 4hrs on. Broke off the side cameras on some trees and lost the windshield wiper to a stand of trees that were in my way. None of that is the big problem though. On the way back the battery light came on and I noticed the system was registering 12.1v. I stopped and cycled through a start. Saw the charging system blip up to 14.4v for a couple seconds and then drop back down.
Could be a loose ground but this seems unlikely. I poked my head down to look at the batteries and everything is new and tight.
Wondering if there is a master ground location on the Sherp N? If there is I couldn't find it easily. There's a mess of wires down there so tracing them back won't work without a LOT more effort.
I was going to try plugging in the battery tender but I just noticed the female receptacle is a NEMA 5-20R. So now I have to figure out where to get a cord with that plug end, or ideally an adapter so I can plug the vehicle into a standard household receptacle. If I can do that and the main and reserve battery charges then maybe this will allow me to rule out a couple of potential causes.
I also noticed a little oil under the transfer case in the belly. Could be normal spillage from when it was at the factory. Also some oil on top of the hydraulic fluid reservoir (?) which I'm assuming is the same thing. Perhaps a sloppy top up. I cleaned it up and will keep an eye out to see if the oil reappears.
I should state up front I'm not a mechanic... I definitely lean toward the pilot end of the skill ladder.
