Hey everyone.
I've had my Sherp N for about 6 months now and have had the opportunity to take a number of passengers. Family, friends, and the like. The Sherp is an awesome machine but there are two drawbacks that are immediately obvious. The first is heat... you can blast the A/C all you want but on a hot summer day with more than two people in the cab, you will be hot and sweaty. The second is noise in the cabin. I can't speak about the Sherp Pro but the N is really noisy when underway. The engine is screaming underneath you making communication with the person in the passenger seat very difficult and down right impossible with those in the cargo area. In addition, after half day in the Sherp N the noise takes something out of you and your passengers. It dials back the fun factor a little and leaves everyone tired from the noise alone.
So here's what I came up with and so far it its been a game changer for me. The 3M Peltor LiteCom Plus Headset
www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/v000139394/
Basically they are a standard hearing protection headset, with ambient listening mics so you can hear around you, with a FRS and GMRS radio built in. It uses these standard public frequencies to communicate over - which also makes them compatible with many of the hand radios commonly used by hunters and available just about anywhere.
Noise levels in the Sherp are now manageable... even chill... and talking to your passengers or people outside the vehicle is easy.
These units run around CAD $850 each. So not cheap. Which is a drawback. But, if you're dropping CAD $200k+ for a Sherp then a couple thousand for comms shouldn't be a deal killer. Peltor also makes a fancier version for commercial applications. Its called the LiteCom Pro. It connects in to your own handheld radio for comms on commercial or restricted frequencies.
Hope this helps.
